ECONOMICS BOOKS:
- The Wealth of Nations by
Adam Smith
An Inquiry into the Nature and
Causes of the Wealth of Nations is the magnum opus of the Scottish economist
Adam Smith, published on March 9, 1776 during the Scottish Enlightenment. It
is a clearly written account of political economy at the dawn of the
Industrial Revolution, and is widely considered to be the first modern
work in the field of economics. The work is also the first comprehensive
defence of free market policies. It is broken down into five books between
two volumes.
- The General Theory of
Employment, Interest and Money by
John Maynard Keynes
The General Theory of Employment,
Interest, and Money is generally considered to be the masterwork of the
English economist John Maynard Keynes. To a
great extent it created the terminology of modern
macro-economics. It was published in February
1936. The book ushered in a revolution, commonly referred to as the "Keynesian
Revolution", in the way economists thought, and especially in terms of the
feasibility and wisdom of public sector management of the aggregate level of
demand in the economy.
- Economic Consequences of Peace by John Maynard Keynes
The Economic
Consequences of the Peace is a book published by John
Maynard Keynes in 1919. Keynes attended the conference as a
delegate of the British Treasury and argued for a much more
generous peace. It was a best seller throughout the world
and was critical in establishing a general opinion that
the Versailles Treaty was a Carthaginian peace. It helped to
consolidate American public opinion against the treaty and
involvement in the League of Nations. The perception by much
of the British public that Germany had been treated unfairly
in turn was a crucial factor in public support for
appeasement. The success of the book established Keynes'
reputation as a leading economist especially on the left.
When Keynes was a key player in establishing the Bretton
Woods system in 1944, he remembered the lessons from
Versailles as well as the Great Depression. The Marshall
Plan after Second World War is a similar system to that
proposed by Keynes in The Economic Consequences of the
Peace.

BOOKS:
- Art of War by Sun Tzu
The Art of War is
a Chinese military treatise written during the 6th century
BC by Sun Tzu. Composed of 13 chapters, each of which is
devoted to one aspect of warfare, it has long been praised
as the definitive work on military strategies and tactics of
its time. The Art of War is one of the oldest books on
military strategy in the world. It is also one of the most
famous studies of strategy and has had a huge influence on
Eastern and Western military planning, business tactics, and
beyond. First translated into a European language in 1782 by
French Jesuit Jean Joseph Marie Amiot, and had possibly
influenced Napoleon, and even the planning of Operation
Desert Storm. Leaders as diverse as Mao Zedong, General
Pervez Musharraf, Vo Nguyen Giap, and General Douglas
MacArthur have claimed to have drawn inspiration from the
work. The Art of War has also been applied, with much
success, to business and managerial strategies.
